Being down a piece or facing an opponent with multiple Kings feels overwhelming, but in checkers, a single piece in the right position can hold off an entire army. Master these defensive techniques to salvage draws from lost games.
1. The Double Corner Sanctuary
The Double Corner Sanctuary is the most reliable draw mechanism when facing superior numbers. A King moving back and forth between squares 1 & 5 or 28 & 32 can never be trapped by 2 Kings!
2. Holding the Doghole Defense
The Doghole is square 5 or 28 on the outer edge. In late endgames, wedging a checker into the doghole can lock an entire flank and prevent enemy advance.
3. The 3 vs 2 King Draw Matrix
With 2 Kings against 3 Kings, if you maintain control of the Double Diagonal highway, your opponent cannot force a win without offering a trade, securing an easy draw!
