Checkers Board Notation: How to Read, Record & Analyze Games

To study checkers strategy books, follow computer engine evaluations, or compete in tournaments, you must understand standard checkers notation.

1. The 1-to-32 Numbering System

Unlike Chess which uses algebraic coordinates (A1-H8), standard English Checkers numbers the 32 playable dark squares from 1 to 32 starting from the top-left (Black's side) to the bottom-right (Red's side).
